Statistical Analysis of Diffusion Tensors in Diffusion-weighted Magnetic Resonance Image Data

چکیده
In this technical report, we give detailed information about how to establish asymptotic theory for one-step weighted least-squares estimates of tensors, estimated eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and pseudo-likelihood ratio statistics. We establish the strong convergence rate and asymptotic normality for the one-step weighted least-squares estimates of tensors. We derive the first-order and second-order expansions of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the estimated diffusion tensors. We also derive the asymptotic distributions of pseudolikelihood ratio statistics under the null hypotheses to classify tensor morphologies. ∗H. Dynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
متن کاملPrincipal Geodesic Analysis on Symmetric Spaces: Statistics of Diffusion Tensors
Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) is emerging as an important tool in medical image analysis of the brain. However, relatively little work has been done on producing statistics of diffusion tensors. A main difficulty is that the space of diffusion tensors, i.e., the space of symmetric, positivedefinite matrices, does not form a vector space. Therefore, standard linear statist...
متن کاملRician Noise Removal in Diffusion Tensor MRI
Rician noise introduces a bias into MRI measurements that can have a significant impact on the shapes and orientations of tensors in diffusion tensor magnetic resonance images. This is less of a problem in structural MRI, because this bias is signal dependent and it does not seriously impair tissue identification or clinical diagnoses. However, diffusion imaging is used extensively for quantita...
متن کاملThree dimensional restoration of cardiac magnetic resonance diffusion weighted images based on sparse denoising
At present, diffusion weighted imaging is the only means for in vivo and nondestructive characterization of the three-dimensional (3D) diffusion and fibre architecture of human anatomical organs. However, The acquisition of diffusion weighted magnetic resonance image (DWI) is often contaminated by thermal noise, structure noise, chemical artifacts and electromagnetic interference artifacts. Mor...
متن کاملTensor Based Analysis of Diffusion Weighted Magnetic Resonance Images
Diffusion Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI) is a non-invasive and in vivo medical imaging technique that allows neural tissue architecture to be probed at a microscopic scale. This is possible due to the diffusion of hydrogen atoms within water molecules in the imaging body; thus capturing the microstructure of the underlying tissues. DW-MRI adds to conventional MRI the capability of...
